Description
Please write a few lines about your co-op.
Mariposa Grove is a ten year old activism and arts community in North Oakland. We own six apartments, a collective house and lots of shared space (including one additional apartment functioning as our common house) in four adjacent multi-unit houses.
When did you form? Briefly, what is your co-op history?
Bought three houses spring of '99 in dilapidated condition. As apartments were renovated, new people moved in. Fourth house purchased spring 2006. As of now, July 2009, we have six apartments (owned as limited appreciation condos) and one common house as part of the Northern California Land Trust and a multi-family house owned by one family within it.
Do you own or rent your living space?
Mixed. Condos/apartments owned by residents. Multi-family house has a mix of owners and renters.
Are there any social or environmental causes that unite your co-op?
Arts/Play/Creativity, Social Justice, Sustainability, Diversity & Clear Communication. We have many people with experience in performance arts.
What features of your co-op (as a whole) can you offer the community?
