Some say Loth has retained its earlier cultish essence. The One World Family Cult emphasized love and cooperative living in a way that can still be felt in the house. They went a bit beyond to raise children together? The house emphasizes sustainable cooperative living run by consensus democracy with a creative, food-loving vibe.
When did you form? Briefly, what is your co-op history?
Late 60?s/ early 70?s. Part of the University Students? Cooperative Association (USCA).
What is the long term vision of your co-op?
Loth is expected to remain part of the USCA system and encourage students to explore community living in school and gather skills to take it beyond.
Do you own or rent your living space?
USCA owns the house.
Are there any social or environmental causes that unite your co-op?
Emphasis on sustainability. We buy local organic food and work to minimize waste.
Describe your co-op's themes.
Vegetarian.
What skills can residents of your co-op offer the community?
Expertise on composting, nutrition, sustainable living, recycling and subjects we frequently study in school--sustainability, environmental justice, waste reduction.
What features of your co-op (as a whole) can you offter the community?
Can sometimes offer space for movie/ documentary screenings, community meetings, performances, workshops, trainings. Fundraising parties are more difficult because of neighbors.
What services do you desire from our community that we do not currently have?
Better access to information about events and services.
What would you like to gain from this directory project?
