Introduction

Fellow co-opers: We are a part of the phenomenal resource pool of co-operative houses, collectives and co-housing units where thousands of people in the Bay Area reside. But we don't just "reside" in these houses, we live. We all live lifestyles that emphasize co-operation, sharing and learning by living with others. And yet, every collective living situation is different. And precisely as a result of this, we have so much to offer one another.

There is no one model for co-operative living. Within the 42 houses of the first printed directory there are a huge variety of ways our households have chosen to cooperate: from sharing chores to sharing a garden, from collectively lending bikes to collectively raising children, from occupancies of 3 people to 151, Within you will find coops that are among the first in U.S. history, ones that just formed, and ones that are about to dissolve.

Our intention in creating this housing directory was to take small steps in bringing this amazing group of people together. We hope that this directory will serve as a tool for houses to use as they see fit. So, whether you are seeking a network of activists, a bulk food buying club, guests for your annual party or would like advice from older co-oppers, this directory is for you. It belongs to this community. Enjoy.

Help Out!

Parties? Skill-Sharing? Bulk Food Club? When does it begin? The rest is up to you, my friends. We hope that you will make best use of the wonderful community that you are a part of.

If you are interested in contributing to the on-line directory or to future editions of the paper directory please contact jingoro@casa-z.org.
